Our large community Bible School will be                                              held here at the church in Sept.
                                             Here is our schedule:
                                Thursday, Sept. 106:00-8:00 PM
                              Friday, Sept. 116:00-8:00 PM
                                 Saturday, Sept. 121:00-4:00 PM
                                 Sunday, Sept. 138:40-10:50 AM

We need your involvement to make this a success.  We want to return to our traditional Bibletimes Marketplace format. It is the most exciting Vacation Bible School format and the children in our church family have missed it.  Marketplace  requires too much set-up of too many items to take off-campus and actually locate out into the community.  We hope for it to be as big a community outreach as when we went out to Central Elementary and Waynesville Middle School.  This will only happen if you help.

How can you help?
We are setting up a station in the lobby and in the Christian Growth Center that from now until September will have needs posted.  No matter what your strengths may be, we have a slot where you can put them to good use!  Sign up this week!

Weekly Work Sessions- 10:30-noon each Wednesday
Starting on July 1, we will have painting and building sessions on the 3rd floor every Wednesday morning.  We plan to transform our church building into Rome at the time of Paul and the Underground Church.  Karen Kimel and another caregiver will be in the nursery to take care of children during this time so Moms can take a break and come paint and have fellowship with the rest of us. (E-mail Jane at janebaker@charter.net to let her know children’s ages so we’ll be prepared for them.) We’ll have all the needed materials, just bring yourself and your creativity.  Reminder:  We do not have air conditioning on the 3rd floor so dress to stay cool.

We need Leaders immediately.
Many hands do make light work!  We need a leader for each of the following areas to coordinate our volunteers’ efforts.  Jane has detailed job descriptions and materials.  Broken down into so many areas means that each job is manageable rather than overload.  You would just need to provide the leadership.

Rev. Sandy Giles
On Sunday, July 5, 2009, our new minister, Rev. Sandy Giles will begin his ministry at First Church. Sandy was born in Macon, Georgia and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia and a MDiv. from Duke Divinity School. He has served appointments in Rutherford County; First UMC, Morganton; Abernethy, Asheville; Pine Grove, Winston
Salem; First UMC, Elkin; and he has been the District Superintendent for the Albemarle District since 2004. His wife, Susan, will be the minister at Francis Cove UMC and Faith UMC. They have two grown children, Kari and Zachary. We welcome Sandy to our staff and hope that he and his wife will enjoy their time with us.
We will celebrate Sandy’s first Sunday with us with ONE service at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary. Following the service, the congregation is invited to return at 2:00 to continue our celebration with an ice cream social/reception in the courtyard.
