“BEING THE BODY” IN MISSISSIPPI
MISSISSIPPI MISSION TRIP UPDATE
Our forty-member FUMC Building Team will leave for Waveland, MS, on Saturday, May 10, with the goal of building a new
house in a week. This is such an exciting and meaningful project that the members of FUMC have made possible, and we
hope you will continue to be a part of it by remembering it in your prayers daily. Once we arrive in Waveland, we hope to keep
you updated on our progress by providing daily updates on our church website (www.fumc-waynesville.com).
If you have not already seen it, the floor plan for the house is on display in the gathering area outside the sanctuary. Also, we
have received some information about the family who will move into the house that we would like to share with you. Robert
Allnet is a 35 year-old single father, who is parenting four children, ages 4, 7, 17 and 18. Mr. Allnet works in a job that pays
$2.13 per hour, plus tips, which obviously makes it quite challenging to provide for himself and his children. The Allnets lost
their home during Hurricane Katrina, and have been living in a FEMA trailer since the hurricane (a typical FEMA trailer is 12
feet wide and 30 feet long). Mr. Allnet is very grateful for the opportunity that is being offered to his family, and has indicated
his desire to work alongside the members of our team in building his home. When asked about the challenges of managing
during these stress-filled months, he simply says, “I have to for my children. I am all that they have, and we need to stay
together.”
We are so grateful for your support of this project. We have received $33,378. in pledges. If you have made a pledge and
not yet fulfilled it, we ask that you please do so at your earliest possible convenience. This project is being done through
UMCOR, and we are in the process of sending funds so they can purchase the construction materials and have them onsite,
ready for us to use when we arrive. May God bless your faithfulness and generosity!
