The cool mornings and warm, sunny days we are having are wonderful, aren’t they?! And the pumpkins in the church yard help remind us it is October, one of our most beautiful and enjoyable months.
I hope you find the stewardship emphasis enjoyable in October, too! Seriously…I hope we welcome an opportunity to think and pray about all the ways God has blessed us and how we respond. Last Sunday we kicked off our “Giving to Grow…in 2012 and Beyond” campaign, with three speakers in our worship services…Kevin Murphy at 8:30, Susan Kimel at 8:40, and Reid Taylor at 11:00. Each of them shared heartfelt ways in which they have been blessed and how they have been taught to give to God in return. This Sunday we’ll have three more speakers, then next Sunday, October 16, we’ll have a Celebration of the Mission and Ministries of FUMC at 10:00 a.m. in the Christian Growth Center. There will be coffee, juice, and snacks, and a video starring the church family. Well, I guess we should say the main character is God...for “it is God who gives the growth,” wrote Paul…it is God who gives us all that we have and all that we are.
Next week you’ll receive a brochure in the mail to help you think about where we are and where God is calling us. I hope you’ll give some time and consideration to it, and that you’ll begin praying the prayer asking for God’s guidance in making our commitments for 2012, which we will bring to the altar on October 23, when Dr. Ken Carter, our district superintendent, will be our preacher in all three services.
One more thing. We know that many of our neighbors are suffering the effects of this economic downturn. The demands for food at Haywood Christian Ministry have nearly depleted their stock of food. So, as you come Sunday, bring a can or two, and let’s help HCM help our hungry neighbors.
See you Sunday where we give…we grow…
