Good Friday Crosswalk & Seven Last Words
About this event
Commemorate Good Friday with Downtown Waynesville Churches
Good Friday is the day Christians remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in anticipation of the celebration of his resurrection on Easter Sunday. It is a day marked by solemness, devotion, and lament. From 10:30 - 3:45 First Baptist, First Presbyterian, First United Methodist and Grace Episcopal are offering opportunities for public witness, fellowship, worship and individual reflection. All are welcome to come to any or all of these offerings.
Continuing the tradition, the churches are coordinating a Cross Walk along Main St and a simple lunch with reflective conversation prompts. New this year is a time for contemplation on Jesus’ Seven Last Words from the cross, followed by a guided Stations of the Cross liturgy. Pastors from Grace Church, First Baptist Waynesville and First United Methodist Waynesville will offer brief reflections on each of the Seven Last Words, followed by a prayer, hymn and generous amount of silence. All of these events are open to the community.
