About this event
Sojourners to Go to Tennessee B & B’s
Have you ever visited a B&B? Well, it probably wasn’t like those that the Sojourners will be visiting in early October. The letters, in this case, do not stand for bed and breakfast, but instead Bush’s and Bucc-ee’s!
On Thursday, Oct. 3, the Sojourners will be making the one-hour trek to eastern Tennessee where we will visit the Bush’s (think beans) Visitor Center near Chestnut Hill and the world’s second largest Bucc-ees located just off I-40 near Sevierville.
The Sojourners will first travel to Bush’s Visitor Center to see where that beautiful bean company was born. Our 10:30 AM arrival will give us time to enjoy the Bush’s® Visitor Center nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. There you will learn all about the history of the Bush’s Bean Company, and how they’ve spent the last 110 years perfecting the Secret Family Recipe that has changed the bean world forever. The Visitor’s Center includes a museum filled with incredibly tasteful exhibits that will feed your bean curiosity. You will also have time to browse in the museum store and enjoy some home cookin’ and Southern specialties at the Bush’s® Family Café. You may want to save room for a slice or three of their famous Pinto Bean Pie.
After lunch, the Sojourners will travel back toward Waynesville and stop at Bucc-ee’s located at I-40 Exit 407. Bucc-ee’s is the latest gas station/convenience store/travel center phenomenon that had its humble beginnings in 1982 in Lake Jackson, Texas. Since that time, Bucc-ee’s locations have sprung up across the Southeast. Bucc-ee’s is an experience in itself, and one of those places that you must see to believe.
Here are some reasons that Bucc-ee’s has become so famous: the massive size of the store and number of gas pumps, the iconic smiling beaver mascot based on Bucc-ee’s founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, Beaver Nuggets and beef jerky, barbeque and beef brisket sandwiches-YUM-MY!!, and clean clean clean large large large restrooms!
After spending a couple hours soaking up the Bucc-ee’s experience, it will be time to head home. We suggest you plan on bringing a brisket sandwich, some Bucc-ee’s chips, a kolache (or two) and/or a cinnamon roll home with you for supper. Don’t forget the Beaver Nuggets and the beef jerky.
